Chookagian next up
Barber will compete against Katlyn Chookagian in a flyweight fight at UFC 299 on March 9, according to Alex Behunin of MMA Mania.
ANALYSIS
Barber has a good chance to establish herself in the UFC's top-five at women's flyweight by defeating No. 4 Chookagian. While the latter has not fought in over a year, Barber racked up multiple wins to put her just one short of accomplishing six consecutive victories.

Picks up fifth straight win
Barber defeated Amanda Ribas via TKO (strikes) at 3:42 of Round 2 at UFC on ABC 5 on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.
ANALYSIS
Barber was fortunate to earn a split decision win over Andrea Lee in her prior bout this past March, so she wisely made sure the judges were left out of the proceedings here. This was actually a pretty close fight for a good majority of it, but it was Barber who consistently landed the more damaging blows. She closed with a 93-43 edge in total strikes landed, but that gap was buoyed by the late surge that eventually put Ribas away. We've seen Maycee display stopping power in the past, mostly notably a three-fight stretch to begin her UFC run in which she won each bout via knockout. She got back to that path here and would go on to earn a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus as a result. Barber is still just 25 years of age. She's won five in a row dating back to July 2021, but two of those wins came via split decision.

Set to face Amanda Ribas
Barber agreed to fight Amanda Ribas in a flyweight bout at UFC's June 24 event, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Barber has won four straight bouts but is coming off an unimpressive split-decision victory over Andrea Lee in March as a significant favorite. Ribas has alternated wins and losses in her past five fights and last defeated Viviane Araujo last month.

Fortunate to earn decision win
Barber defeated Andrea Lee via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC on ESPN 43 on Saturday in San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
It was an underwhelming performance from Barber as a -275 favorite, and she should consider herself extremely fortunate two of the three judges scored the bout for her. We have seen Maycee struggle with her takedown defense at times in the past, but never to this extent. She allowed Lee to land all five of her attempts and spent at least 1:20 (or greater) of each of the three rounds being controlled on the mat. Offensively, Barber landed her only two takedown attempts and finished with a 66-57 edge in total strikes landed. It's surprising that was enough to get the job done. Barber has won four in a row dating back to July 2021, but two of them have been via split decision (Lee, Miranda Maverick) and the other two have come against lesser competition (Jessica Eye, Montana De La Rosa). Barber turns 25 years of age in mid-May.

Targeting Lee in March
Barber is in line to take on Andrea Lee in a flyweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for March 25, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Barber has recently bounced back from back-to-back defeats to put together a three-fight winning streak and has her sights set on returning to the title picture. Her next stepping stone will be Lee, a tough-as-nails fighter who has faced much of the best the flyweight division has to offer, even though she's coming off a loss to Viviane Araujo in May. While Barber is regarded as the prospect with the higher long-term ceiling, she'll be giving up height and reach advantages to Lee. Lee also sports superior striking volume and takedown average marks.
